Working with Depression & Anxiety

Working with Depression & Anxiety

Depression can present in a myriad of ways including ongoing feelings of sadness, worthlessness, hopelessness, and the inability to experience joy in your life. Feeling depressed can mean you have lost the energy and motivation you once had. By working together, therapy can provide effective tools and coping strategies to alleviate and manage stressors, and help rediscover a sense of optimism and wellbeing.

Anxiety can present as feelings of excessive worry, uneasiness, fear, dread, compulsive behaviours, and an avoidance of triggers to reduce anxious feelings. Anxiety can significantly impact your overall wellbeing and activities of daily living.

My goal is to help you explore your feelings, triggers and how you can change your reaction to them. This process will identify unhelpful thinking and behaviour patterns, uncover ways of altering them and substitute them with more positive ones. Anxiety disorders differ considerably, so therapy is tailored to your specific symptoms and diagnosis.

Grief and loss counselor Adelaide

Working with Grief and Loss

Grief can be described as a response to any form of loss. It can encompass a range of feelings including (but not limited to) deep sadness, anger, regret, guilt and yearning. You may have experienced the loss of a loved one, a relationship, the loss of a pet, a health event or diagnosis that has resulted in the loss of functioning the way you used to. Each person has unique needs when dealing with loss.

The experience of grief can be a difficult process. I will help you explore your feelings and memories with compassion and empathy. You will be supported in your loss - no loss is too big or small. We will work together to explore ways of adjusting to change and develop new opportunities of being and doing. You do not have to endure grief alone.

Working with Communication and Relationship difficulties

Communication issues can develop in any situation or relationship. Many people have different ways of communicating and this can sometimes result in misunderstanding or misinterpreting others. This can lead to arguments and tension in personal and/or professional relationships. When conflict arises it can make communication even more challenging resulting in the inability to reach mutual understanding. Emotional and psychological issues that stem from early childhood relationships and previous intimate relationships may impact the way we communicate and if unresolved can lead to hurt, anger, frustration, isolation and breakdown.

Messages and relationships are often ambiguous. We can work together to break down communication messages to clearly define meaning in order to eliminate misinterpretation and misunderstanding. I can help with developing your communication skills and provide you with tools to move forward in a respectful and meaningful way.
